Bob Adams
Bob has been committed to improving public school education for 23 years. He began by volunteering in the classroom when his son was in Kindergarten. His classroom experiences led to his becoming involved in school operations and finance. When his children, Scott & Kate, were in Portola Valley schools, he helped organize and found the Portola Valley Schools Fund and subsequently the Portola Valley School Foundation (it now raises about $750,000 per year). His wife, Susan, also volunteered and was elected to the PV School Board while their children attended both Ormondale and Corte Madera schools. In addition, at one point, Bob recruited each of the five members of the PV School Board and then helped them get elected.
Once his children left PV Schools, Bob applied what he had learned to public high schools in the Sequoia Union High School District. He was one of two founders of Foundation for the Future (it now raises about $650,000 per year) and took the lead in founding the Woodside High School Foundation (it now raises about $250,000 per year). He was president of Woodside High School Foundation (1993-1996) and still sits on its Board as an active member.
Five and a half years ago, Bob joined the Summit Management Committee (a precursor to the school board) to help design and build what was to become Summit - a leading edge, high performing, diverse public school. He oversaw the permit and construction of the school’s temporary site at 201 Marshall in Redwood City. He is a dedicated advocate of school choice, and believes there are better ways to teach, rather than just “stand and deliver.” In addition, Bob is the primary designer for what today is Summit’s pay-for-performance incentive compensation system. He currently continues to work on both Summit and public school improvement to benefit the community and the state. (Both of his children are adults, and out of college).
In his work life, Bob is President of Pacific Advisory Group – a financial advisory firm that manages money for a fee.
